Wessex Premier League | 6 February 2018 | The Blanchard Wells Stadium  | Scorer(s): Bye

An early first half strike by captain Joe Bye was enough to maintain the Royals’ current win streak of four league games intact.

In what was the first chance of the game, Portchester were ruthless. Winger Brandon Miller evaded several challenges down the left side before steering the ball towards the towering Nathan Kirby who was six yards out.

The big centre-forward knocked the ball back into the path of Joe Bye who elegantly drifted passed his marker before sliding a left-footed shot into the bottom right hand side of the net in the 8th minute.

The Royals then had a number of chances in quick succession to double their lead but on all occasions, couldn’t quite find the final product.

First Steve Ramsey went close with a looping volley before Miller raced through but to be prevented by the keeper.

Moments later and the visitors had their first chances of the game. Striker Louis Coulson found himself in a one-on-one situation with Lewis Noice but the Portchester stopper came out on top.

It was the same outcome again when Noice showed terrific reflexes to prevent Bournemouth winger Charlie Gilbert.

The game continued at a frantic pace as both teams looked to grab a goal. The returning Jake Morgan came close when his delicate one-two with Dale Mason presented him with a chance to extend the lead, but his shot was straight at Jake Poynter.

Midfielder Ali Falkhal had the final chance of the half for the visitors. After drifting passed a number of Portchester bodies he let fly from distance, but his powerful effort fizzed just over the bar.

Half-time: AFC Portchester 1 – 0 Bournemouth FC

The Royals, like most weeks, came flying out after the break and perhaps should have been two goals to the good had it not been for Poynter’s heroics in goal to prevent Steve Ramsey on 52 minutes.

There was nearly an equaliser almost immediately though, as a bullet header from a Bournemouth defender was sent goal bound, but once again – Noice was there to stop it.

Brandon Miller will have found himself unlucky to have not scored when he ran on the end of a through ball but under pressure from defenders, couldn’t quite get the clean contact on his shot that he required.

Portchester continued to pile on the pressure when youngster Dylan Hall, who had just replaced Steve Ramsey, dispossessed the visiting defence to lay the ball across to Nathan Kirby who blasted the ball inches over the bar with ten minutes remaining.

There was a late surge forward from Bournemouth with just minutes remaining but as to be expected, there was going to be no beating Lewis Noice in this game.

A delightful set-piece was sent swirling goal-bound and looked destined for the top corner but the Royals number one did just enough to tip the ball over the bar and out for a corner.
